Some of the most striking finds from the archive, perhaps because the pandemic has been so devastating in terms of sustaining social contacts, have been the Walls, Fans and Shells of friendships. These elaborate graphics appear in many autograph and note books, which were ubiquitous until so called 'social media' replaced the hand held pages so carefully conceived. Some include only names, others addresses indicating the letter writing that followed when Homerton years were over and it was time to move on. I ave written elsewhere (in this blog post ) about the Round Robins and the impressive ways in which communities were formed and sustained over long periods. These varied and exquisite 'objects of friendships' are yet another manifestation of that. Here are just some of them.
